Target: Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America
Goal: Don’t ban diversity trainings in the workplace in the midst of a nationwide movement against systemic racism.
President Trump announced that he is banning federal workplace trainings designed to educate participants about white privilege, critical race theory and the history of racism in the United States. According to a White House report, he claims that these crucial trainings are “divisive, anti-American propaganda.”
Amid nationwide protests against systemic racism and police brutality, many companies have reportedly doubled down on diversity trainings in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. However, the White House’s Office of Management and Budget memo suggests that the ban focuses specifically on anti-racism related trainings which purportedly create “division and resentment” among federal employees.
This is arguably one of the most important times in American history for companies to hold diversity trainings. Demand Trump reverse his insensitive decision to ban vital workplace interventions.
Dear President Trump,
As protests regarding systemic racism erupt across the country and police killings of unarmed Black citizens continue at alarming rates, educating Americans about racism is arguably more important now than ever.
Crucial conversations about white privilege and critical race theory can equip Americans to better address pervasive issues regarding racism and build allyship among different communities. Those who feel “resentment” about these issues are the exact kinds of people who need to have these pertinent discussions. I demand that you immediately reverse your decision to ban federal workplace diversity trainings.
