The Global Search for Education:  Net Zero Activist Sofia Lana Interviews Katie Worth about Climate Miseducation in the United States

There are over 60 million American students learning mixed or false messages about the climate problem that will dictate their future.

This month audiences can screen Net Zero Speaks with Katie Worth, the new film in the Net Zero series.  Climate Activist Sofia Lana interviews Katie Worth and aims to understand this issue and learn about the education change leaders who are trying to solve it. This film is curated for the Planet Classroom Network by Protect our Planet and Planet Classroom..

Emmy-winning journalist Katie Worth’s new book, Miseducation: How Climate Change is Taught in America, exposes how big money and entrenched ideology have led to the intentional miseducation of American children.  What are the strategies and solutions needed to get the US Climate Change curriculum on track? The Global Search for Education is pleased to welcome Climate Activist Sofia Lana.

best place to buy provigil online 2018 Sofia, why did you select this particular climate thought leader to interview?  What inspired you about him/her?

Katie is simply an inspiration. She is humble and she’s a fighter. She has been key to making the American situation visible and revealing the reasons for the country’s decisions in the face of climate change.

What surprised you most about your interview?

That she focused entirely on the topic of education and how real the problem of Climate Change is.  She stayed away from different ideologies and political thoughts.

What are the 3 main takeaways for the Net Zero audience from your interview?

If every kid in America was able to receive proper consumer behaviour and environmental knowledge, once they reach adulthood, their consumer decisions, such as buying electric vehicles, buying houses near their jobs, and eating vegan could reduce carbon emissions more effectively than putting solar panels in every house in America.

Education curriculum in America is handled by the individual states. One example that was really interesting was the state of Washington, where the teachers, regardless of the subject they teach, receive specific training about climate change.  This helps to achieve the global vision of the issue by permitting educators to relate all topics, not just science or environmental subjects to the climate crisis.

Katie emphasises the fact that youth must be active and take action to get involved in the solutions. Feeling empowered and being part of the change make the climate change transition easier on our brains and reduces our fears and feelings of hopelessness.  Yes, the problem is out there but we have to stay positive to the cause and we need to remember that a lot has been done already.  We are hopefully not in a world facing a 5-6 degree increase. We are already fighting to achieve 1.5 – 2 degree goals.

Thank you Sofia!
