Diversity and Equity Action Team (DEAT) Book Club
The Diversity and Equity Action Team (DEAT) is forming a book club! We will meet the second Wednesday of each month and will rotate between books aimed towards kids in grades 4th through 8th and adults. The books intended for kids in grades 4th through 8th can be read by kids on their own or with a parent. Some of the books chosen for adults may be read by middle school students with parent’s discretion. Each month we will send out questions to keep in mind while reading the book for the following month.
We hope you will join us for our first meeting on April 15 at 6:30 pm in the Middle campus library. We will be discussing For Black Girls Like Me by Mariama J. Lockington. Our second meeting will be on May 13 at 6:30 pm in the Elementary campus library and we will be discussing Black Enough: Stories of Being Young and Black in America by Ibi Zoboi, Tracey Baptiste, et al. We will work to obtain several copies of each book, please contact Megan Gatewood if you will need a copy. Keep an eye out for the questions regarding For Black Girls Like Me and next school year’s book selections.
