The TCU Horned Frogs have made the College Football Playoff as the No. 3 seed. TCU becomes the first team other than Oklahoma from the Big 12 Conference to make the Playoff.
The Horned Frogs went 12-1 this season, but there was some drama as they lost the Big 12 Conference Championship Game on Saturday at AT&T Stadium, falling to Kansas State 31-28 in overtime.
But the College Football Playoff committee clearly considered the entire body of work for TCU, which included a perfect 12-0 start to the season, while a loss to a team they beat by 10 earlier in the season, on a neutral site, in overtime, was more than enough to get them into the Playoff.
After the loss on Saturday, Sonny Dykes said his team deserved to make the four-team invitational, saying, “For sure I do. I mean, we went through the big 12 undefeated. We’ve been able to figure out how to win games all year, and today we weren’t able to do that. But I think we’re certainly deserving I think this league is one of the best leagues in the country and we went undefeated. I don’t think we should be punished for coming to the Big 12 Championship game. I don’t think that’s how this is designed. I don’t think it’s designed to punish teams and prevent them from getting in the playoff.”
As the No. 3 seed, TCU will take on No. 2 seed Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix on Saturday, December 31st at 3:00 CST.
The Georgia Bulldogs were named the No. 1 seed after a perfect 13-0 season in the SEC. And as the No. 4 seed, the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Peach Bowl on Saturday, December 31st with a 7:00 CST kick off.
